In this issue, H. Tian et al. review photoswitches that are triggered in the visible to NIR range. What are the distinct photochromic reaction mechanisms? The Minireviews deal with metal-substrate-bound complexes as light-harvesting agents in visible-light-induced, single-metal-catayzed, directed C–H functionalizations (R. M. Koenigs et al.) and the oxidative fluorination of heteroatoms enabled by trichloroisocyanuric acid and potassium fluoride (C. R. Pitts et al.).

In the original research section, J. Sivaguru et al. describe a route towards upcycling biomass-derived crosslinked polymers with light (see picture). X. Wang et al. succeeded in the asymmetric de novo syntheses of a complex peptidyl nucleoside antibiotic, miharamycin B, and its biosynthetic precursor. M. Fischer et al. show how water networks repopulate protein–ligand interfaces with temperature. J. De Roo et al. present the chemistry of Cu3N and Cu3PdN nanocrystals.
