Angewandte Chemie 51/2023: Deeper Understanding

Author: Angewandte Chemie International Edition

In this issue, Ruth Knibbe et al. review the metal nucleation and growth in rechargeable metal batteries through theory and experiment. Helmut Cölfen et al. discuss the mechanisms of formation and oxygen evolution catalysis of hydroxides by in situ and operando techniques. The Minireviews deal with liquid-crystal emulsions for photonics, sensing, and active matter (Alberto Concellón), point-of-care testing for the detection of microRNAs (Stefano Cinti et al.), as well as chirality in confined nanospaces (Cristiano Zonta et al.). Mahdokht Soltani and Julie E. Rorrer highlight recent work on the conversion of waste plastic to liquid organic hydrogen carriers.

In the original research section, Qing Ye et al. describe their journey from benzoborirene to benzoborole-supported 1,2-diamine and antiaromatic borolediide (see picture). Masakatsu Shibasaki et al. locked the conformation of a paddlewheel rhodium complex and used it for catalytic nitrene transfers. Benjamin F. Cravatt et al. discovered an isotype-selective covalent inhibitor of the RNA methyltransferase NSUN2 by means of proteomics. Daniel J. Mindiola et al. succeeded in iron-catalyzed intermolecular C–H aminations assisted by an isolated iron imido radical intermediate.
