Art Collection of Karl Ziegler And His Wife

Art Collection of Karl Ziegler And His Wife

The Stiftung Sammlung Ziegler is exhibiting works from the private collection of Karl Ziegler and his wife. The first part, running until January 11, 2026, features pieces by Klee, Feininger, and Nolde.

From February 2026 (8.2.2026-7.2.2027), the second part will focus on Marc, Macke, Heckel, and Jawlensky, followed in 2027 by the third part, showcasing children and animals, travel impressions, landscapes, and still lifes.

The February 2026 exhibition examines the lives and works of the four Expressionist artists, but also goes beyond individual artistic profiles, making the act of collecting itself and the collector couple Ziegler the point of departure for its reflections.

The Ziegler family home, completed in 1957, had an extensive garden and stood within sight of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute for Coal Research. It was here that Professor Karl Ziegler had just made a groundbreaking discovery for which he would receive the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1963. The layout of the house and the orientation of its living and working spaces, with large retractable windows facing the garden, reveal a desire for a lifestyle connected to nature.
