BASF will construct a state-of-the-art Electronic Grade Ammonium Hydroxide (NH₄OH EG) plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany, to support wafer cleaning, etching, and other precision processes in semiconductor manufacturing. NH₄OH EG produced at the new plant will be essential for advanced nodes chip technology, enabling the next generation of semiconductors that are vital for key European industries, including automotive and AI. Operations are expected to begin in 2027.
With new chip manufacturing plants emerging across Europe, demand for high-purity chemicals like ammonium hydroxide is rising. The need is also driven by a close cooperation partner of BASF, who is currently building a new chip production plant in Europe.
BASF is a global leader in supplying the semiconductor industry with high-purity single bulk chemicals and specialized chemical formulations essential for semiconductor manufacturing. The company offers a comprehensive portfolio of materials primarily used in semiconductor production processes, including cleaning, etching, photo, metal deposition, and chemical mechanical planarization.
