Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus, University of Bielefeld, Germany, celebrates her 65th birthday on December 18, 2016. Her research is focused on combustion diagnostics and the in‐situ analysis of reactive systems.
Katharina Kohse-Höinghaus studied chemistry at the University of Bochum, Germany, where she received her Ph.D. in 1978. From 1979 to 1994, she worked at the German Aerospace Center (DLR), Stuttgart, Germany. She finished her habilitation at the University of Stuttgart in 1992, and has been Professor for Physical Chemistry at the University of Bielefeld since 1994.
From 2004 to 2010, Kohse-Höinghaus served as Editor-in-Chief for the journal Combustion and Flame. She was President of the German Bunsen Society (DBG, Deutsche Bunsengesellschaft) for Physical Chemistry in 2007 and 2008, and President of The Combustion Institute from 2012 to 2016.
Among other honors, Kohse-Höinghaus received the Cross of the Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2007, the Wilhelm Jost Lecture of the Göttingen Academy of Sciences and Humanities and the DBG in 2012, and the National Friendship Award of the People’s Republic of China in 2016. She was selected as a “Distinguished Woman in Chemistry/Chemical Engineering” in 2011 and is a Member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.
