Professor Joseph Wang, University of California — San Diego, USA, is designated Doctor Honoris Causa in Chemistry by the University of Alcalá, Spain. Wang receives this unique distinction due to his reputation as a researcher of the highest standard and his work as an editor and humanitarian. The ceremony will be held in the 16th-century Paraninfo of Alcala University on 24 November 2011.

Joseph Wang, Professor of nanoengineering, obtained his higher education at the Israel Institute of Technology and was awarded his D.Sc. in 1978. He has served as a research associate at the University of Wisconsin and at New Mexico State University, both USA.

Wang’s research focuses on the field of nanobioelectronics in which nanomaterials are applied to the analysis of biomolecules. Much of his work is directed toward electrochemical sensing devices for clinical point-of-care testing and environmental monitoring.

He is currently the Chief-Editor of the international journal Electroanalysis and has been a member of the Advisory Editor Board of many analytical journals. Between 1997 and 2007, he was listed as the most cited researcher in chemistry by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI).
