Angewandte Chemie 21/2018: Economic and Ecological

Author: Angewandte Chemie International Edition

In this issue, S. R. Waldvogel et al. review electrochemical aspects of the synthesis of value-added organic products. What makes the use of electricity attractive from economic and ecological points of view? R. Tepper and U. S. Schubert discuss halogen bonding in solution, especially anion recognition, templating, and organocatalysis. In an Essay, P. C. Hiberty and B. Braïda plead for a dual molecular-orbital/valence-bond culture. The Highlight deals with high-molecular-weight polymers with diverse substituents, such as poly(aminoborane)s.

In the Communications section, V. Valtchev et al. describe a postsynthetic functionalization of 3D covalent organic frameworks for selective extraction of lanthanide ions (see picture). Q. Zhang et al. found thiophene-fused heteroaromatic diones to be promising NIR reflectors for radiative cooling. S. Zhou et al. succeeded in the palladium-catalyzed para-selective alkylation of electron-deficient arenes.
