Guy Lloyd-Jones, University of Edinburgh, UK, has received the 2018 EurJOC Lecture Award. The lecture titled "Complex Simplicity: Activation and Propagation in Catalysis" will be held at the conference ORCHEM in Berlin, Germany, on September 11, 2018.
The EurJOC lecture was first awarded in 2012 at ORCHEM, which is the biennial meeting of the Liebig-Vereinigung, the organic division of the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh, German Chemical Society). The recipient is selected by the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Organic Chemistry (EurJOC) in conjunction with the Editor.
Guy Lloyd-Jones studied chemistry at Huddersfield Polytechnic (now University of Huddersfield), UK, and received his Doctorate in Organic Chemistry from Oxford University, UK, in 1992. From 1993 to 1995, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with Andreas Pfaltz, Basel University, Switzerland. In 1996, Lloyd-Jones became Lecturer at Bristol University, UK. There, he was promoted to Reader in 2000 and to Full Professor in 2003. Since 2013, he serves as Forbes Chair of Organic Chemistry at the University of Edinburgh.
Among many other honors, Lloyd-Jones has received the Zeneca Strategic Research Award in 1997, the AstraZeneca Academic Prize in Organic Chemistry in 2003, the Organic Reaction Mechanisms Prize from the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) in 2007, the RSC Tilden Prize in 2014, and the Pedler Award from the RSC in 2018. He is an Elected Fellow of the National Academy of Scotland (The Royal Society of Edinburgh) and an Elected Fellow of the UK National Academy of Science (The Royal Society).
His research interests include reaction mechanisms, homogeneous transition-metal catalysis, isotopic labeling, ligand design, NMR spectroscopy, and reaction kinetics.
