The scientist we are looking for this time studied under two famous German chemists of the 19th century—the “father of the fertilizer industry” as well as the first President of the German Chemical Society.

Our chemist discovered the first industrially used naphthalin-based dye, which was named after him or her. He or she also developed one of the earliest azo dyes: a brown diazo dye which is named after the first German chancellor.
