In this issue, S. Mintova et al. review the properties of metal-containing zeolites beyond current heterogeneous catalytic reactions, and L. Wang et al. review the composites of halide perovskites and metal–organic framework (MOF) crystals. The Minireviews deal with the synthesis and post-synthesis transformations of germanosilicate zeolites (J. Čejka et al.), performance enhancement of carbon dots in porous materials through host–guest synergy (J. Yu et al.), and electron microscopy studies of local structural modulations in zeolite crystals (O. Terasaki et al.).

In the original research section, J. Yu et al. present subnanometer bimetallic platinum–zinc clusters for propane dehydrogenation (see picture). B. M. Weckhuysen et al. conducted in situ spectroscopy of thin MOF films on calcium fluoride windows during gas sorption. S. Ma et al. synthesized a porous organic polymer nanotrap for the efficient extraction of palladium. In their quest for zeolite-like supramolecular assemblies, M. Eddaoudi et al. developed self-assembly of metal–organic squares via directed hydrogen bonding.
