Author: Angewandte Chemie International Edition

In this issue, K. L. Double et al. review superoxide dismutase 1 in health and disease—how does a frontline antioxidant become neurotoxic? T. X. Gentner and R. E. Mulvey summarize research on alkali-metal mediation and its application in main-group organometallic chemistry. The Minireviews deal with asymmetric catalytic reactions of donor–acceptor cyclopropanes (X. Feng et al.) and functionalized pillarenes in supramolecular catalysis (L. Wang et al.). T. Skrydstrup et al. share a Viewpoint on amines for CO2 reduction and H.-U. Reissig pays homage to Siegfried Hünig and his research on dyes, redox systems, and organic metals in an Essay.

In the original research section, W. H. Ang et al. present a cisplatin-selective fluorescent probe for real-time monitoring of mitochondrial platinum accumulation in living cells (see picture). J. A. Lercher et al. found zeolite-stabilized di- and tetranuclear molybdenum sulfide clusters to form stable catalytic hydrogenation sites. B. W. Laursen et al. developed ultrabright fluorescent organic nanoparticles based on small-molecule ionic isolation lattices. S. Yokoshima et al. succeeded in a total synthesis of haliclonin A.
