The Angewandte Author Profiles celebrate an author’s 10th, 25th, 50th, or 100th article in the journal since 2000. This month, the following authors have had their 10th paper published and Herbert Mayr and Hansjörg Grützmacher have both had their 25th article published.

Hansjörg Grützmacher, ETH Zürich, Switzerland:

The most amusing chemistry adventure in my career was when a student started a distillation of about 1 L of solvent and without wondering recovered over 3 L (because he had not noticed that the cooler had broken and his distillate was diluted with water).

Aiwen Lei, Wuhan University, China:

My best investment was to buy an in situ IR instrument in 2005 when I started my independent career (I had never used this instrument before).

Nicolai Cramer, EPFL Lausanne, Switzerland:

The most exciting thing about my research is the moment you realize the significance of an unexpected result of a failed experiment.

Herbert Mayr, Ludwig Maximilians University, Germany: The greatest scientific advance of the last decade can only be recognized after another 50 years.
