Angewandte Chemie 46/2012: Creating a Pattern

Author: Angewandte Chemie International Edition

In this week’s Review, P. H. Seeberger et al. discuss the chemical biology of glycosylphosphatidylinositol anchors. Which organic syntheses and biochemical studies have made progress in this area possible? In a Minireview, M. Tredwell and V. Gouverneur summarize techniques for the 18F labeling of arenes. The Highlights deal with photoactivated agents for the treatment of diseases such as cancer (S. L. H. Higgins and K. J. Brewer) and relay catalysis of asymmetric organocatalyzed hydrogenation (F. Shi and L.-Z. Gong).

In the Communications section, J. A. Robinson et al. describe the influence of chlorine and hydroxyl substituents on the P450-catalyzed biosynthesis of vancomycin. Y. Tsuji et al. present copper-catalyzed silacarboxylations of internal alkynes under a CO2 atmosphere to afford silalactones selectively in good to high yields. W. Lubitz et al. succeeded in the identification and characterization of the super-reduced state of the H-cluster in [FeFe] hydrogenase (see picture). K. S. Napolskii et al. demonstrate how to obtain microscopic nickel patterns by means of electrochemical X-ray photolithography.
