The antibacterial properties of silver are the topic of the Review by C. Chernousova and M. Epple. How can it be applied in the form of ions, as a metal, or as nanoparticles? The Highlights deal with skyrmions, magnetic screw-like nanostructures (C. Felser) and fluorescent probes for CO in living cells (W. Lin et al.).


In the Communications section, S. H. Yu et al. present stretchable conductors made of polyurethane sponge, silver nanowires, and poly(dimethylsiloxane)—see picture. C. A. Townsend et al. obtained an insight into how polyketide synthases operate combinatorially. R. R. Tykwinski et al. investigate the bond-length alternation of tetraarylcumulenes, and D. Mysliwiec and M. Stepin show how to synthesize molecular jellyfish: bowl-shaped aromatic compounds from macrocyclic precursors.
