Dr. Sergiy Antonyuk, Institute of Solid Process Engineering and Particle Technology, Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg, Germany, has been awarded the Friedrich-Löffler Prize of the VDI-Gesellschaft Verfahrenstechnik und Chemieingenieurwesen (VDI-GVC; Society for Process and Chemical Engineering). The prize recognizes Antonyuk’s achievements in the field of adhesion, deformation, and fracture behavior of agglomerates which has led to new ways to describe highly loaded particulate systems in conjunction with the multi-scale modeling and simulation of fluidized bed processes.
The award was presented by the President of ProcessNet, Professor Wolfgang Peukert, University of Erlangen, Germany, as part of the opening of the PARTEC 2013, the International Congress on Particle Technology, on April 23, 2013.
Sergiy Antonyuk gained his M.Sc. in process equipment in 1999 from the National Technical University of Donetsk, Ukraine. He did his Ph.D. in in environmental science at the National Technical University of Ukraine, Kiev, under the supervision of Professor O. Parfenyuk. From 2002-2006, he did a second Ph.D. in process engineering under Professor Jürgen Tomas at the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg, Germany, on the deformation and breakage behavior of spherical granules during the compression and impact. Antonyuk spent two years as a postdoctoral researcher at the same institute before moving to his current position at the Institute of Solids Process Engineering and Particle Technology, Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg, where he completed his Habilitation in 2008.
Antonyuk’s research interests include the contact and breakage mechanics of particles and agglomerates, simulation using discrete element method and computation fluid dynamics, and agglomeration, granulation, and coating in fluidized beds.
