Dr. Michael Gross, Oxford, UK, has been awarded the 2014 Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh; German Chemical Society) Prize for Journalists and Authors. The prize is awarded for outstanding contributions to the communication of chemistry to a broader audience. Michael Gross receives the prize for his thoroughly researched work, including newspaper and magazine articles as well as books, which are published in both German and English. The award was presented on March 10 at the Chemiedozententagung meeting at Paderborn, Germany, where Michael Gross also gave a presentation.
Michael Gross received his Ph.D. from the University of Regensburg, Germany, in 1993. He worked as a researcher at the Oxford Centre for Molecular Sciences, University of Oxford, UK, from 1993–2000, and subsequently became a freelance science journalist. He has recently published books on the nanoworld, and on astrobiology.
