In this issue, I. W. Hamley reviews peptide nanotubes. How do they self-assemble, what applications are there in bionanotechnology and materials science? The Highlight deals with catalytic C–H amination by engineered natural enzymes (P. Dauban et al.). In their Editorial, J. T. Goodwin and D. G. Lynn outline the need for holistic education in times of specialization and globalization.

In the Communications section, A. Planas et al. reveal the structural basis of chitin oligosaccharide deacetylation (see picture). W. Jin et al. present a graphene oxide membrane that effectively separates water and dimethyl carbonate. B. A. Grzybowski et al. devised a mechanical mode of activation of polyaniline into its conductive form, and K. Ishihara et al. succeeded in the enantioselective iodolactonization of 4-arylmethyl-4-pentenoic acids.
