The development of nitrogen-rich heterocyclic energetic salts that possess lower vapor pressure, higher density, and better thermal stability than their nonionic molecular counterparts is of importance.
Zhiming Zhou and colleagues, Beijing Institute of Technology, China, have synthesized energetic salts based on a bis-heterocycle-substituted 1,2,3-triazole (HTANFT). The team found that the energetic salts exhibit high density, good thermal stability, and low impact sensitivity. In particular, the hydrazinium, 3,4,5-triamino-1,2,4-triazolium and hydroxylammonium salts display excellent detonation performance and therefore are potential alternatives to 1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX).
