At the 4th Science4Life Technology Slam, founders of start-ups in Germany explained their business ideas in three minutes. A total of 16 teams competed in four blocks focusing on Agriculture & Cleantech, Biotech & Healthcare, Diagnostics & Analytics, and E-Mobility & Thermal Energy. After each block, the audience, consisting of experts, multipliers, and investors, voted for their favorite.

In the field of Agriculture & Cleantech VARIOKAN from Giessen convinced with the best pitch. VARIOKAN designed the first variable sewage drain network to provide an affordable and ecological complement to existing infrastructure, helping to make cities and communities flood-proof.

Medical Cooling from Bad Windesheim presented the best pitch in the Biotech & Healthcare category. Medical Cooling has developed Airchill, a technology that enables ambulances to cool the brain of stroke and resuscitation patients to reduce brain damage and increase the patient’s chances of survival.

The best presentation in the Diagnostics & Analytics category went to UroQuant from Bad Abbach.The start-up focusses on bladder cancer diagnostics, which is currently invasive and inaccurate. UroQuant has a panel of several protein biomarkers with very high informative value, which allows a much more sensitive and non-invasive diagnosis of bladder cancer.

ChargeX from Munich wants to launch a modular charging solution for electric cars with Aqueduct and convinced with this idea in the area of ​​E-Mobility & Thermal Energy. Due to the low installation costs, many parking spaces can be electrified inexpensively and thus the charging infrastructure can be expanded nationwide.

The winners received a certificate from Professor Jochen Maas, patron of Science4Life e.V. and managing director of research and development of Sanofi-Aventis Deutschland GmbH, Frankfurt, and Jens Krüger of the Hessian Ministry of Economic Affairs. In the subsequent exhibition, the audience could examine the prototypes and exhibits of the start-ups and get in touch with the founders. The founder initiative Science4Life e.V. had invited in cooperation with KfW Bankengruppe to this event.
