The Fund of the Chemical Industry (FCI) of the German chemical industry association (VCI) will provide around 12 million euros in 2020, including around 1 million euros for junior scientists in basic research and almost 7 million euros for scholarships. About 3.1 million euros will go to their “School Partnership in Chemistry” project.
The project was initiated in 2001 and aims to strengthen science education at schools and to improve teaching with practical demonstrations. The FCI has invested around 40 million euros since the start of the “School Partnership in Chemistry”. 7,000 schools in Germany have benefited from this.
With the money, teachers can buy equipment and chemicals for experiments. The FCI publishes teaching materials on topics of current interest and supports student competitions such as “Jugend forscht”. The FCI also supports projects in chemistry didactics so that teachers can offer modern chemistry lessons. Cooperation between teachers is also sponsored.
