The Supervisory Board of BASF SE has appointed Wayne T. Smith to the Board of Executive Directors effective at the end of the Annual Meeting on April 27, 2012. He will succeed Dr. Stefan Marcinowski, who will retire with the expiration of his contract.

Wayne Smith was born in Rochester, USA, and earned his bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Syracuse University, New York, USA. He has a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, USA, and is currently head of BASF’s Polyurethanes division headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. He will take over responsibility for Ressort VI and be responsible for Inorganics, Petrochemicals, Intermediates and Process Research & Chemical Engineering.
