Egypt Failed to Spend Research Budget

Author: ChemistryViews

The Egyptian ministry of scientific research only spent 18 % of its annual budget. Reasons are unclear. Poor management of the ministry as well as money not being made available by the National Investment Bank were called.

The annual research budget was increased since the 2011 Tahir Square revolution over a third to 1.3 billion Egyptian pounds (EUR 144 million, $ 186 million). It will now be cut which might affect staff at government research institutions.
