Celanese has announced that it will expand its compounding capabilities at its Nanjing, China, integrated chemical complex to include Fortron polyphenylene sulfide (PPS). The PPS compounding expansion is expected to be operational by year-end 2014.

Fortron PPS is a high-performance semicrystalline polymer that can withstand high thermal, chemical and mechanical stress. It is inherently flame resistant and is virtually unaffected by a broad range of chemicals, even over prolonged periods and at elevated temperatures.

Injection-molding grades are available with glass fiber reinforcements and glass fiber/mineral combinations, so that such products are widely used in replacing traditional engineering materials such as metals, thermosets, and ceramics in automotive applications, electrical/electronic components, industrial/mechanical applications such as blower and pump parts, and in consumer/appliance equipment such as electric heater grills, non-stick coatings, microwave components and insulators.
