Kelley, Rainer E. Glaser
on October 4, 2025 at 12:00 amWhile polymorphs I contain C2-symmetric enantiomers with pronounced azine twists and disrotatory phenyl twists, the acetophenone azine molecules in the new polymorphs II are Ci-symmetric with trans azine moieties and conrotatory phenyl twists. The three polymorphs II exemplify the new Paradigm IV for the supramolecular architectures of “laterally offset diarenes” and result in “shiplap/flat” idioteloamphiphile monolayers (IAMs).

on October 4, 2025 at 12:00 amThe prebiotic reaction toward the Wöhler-RNA, a Proto-RNA-candidate, using aldehydes and biuret or triuret results in a mixture of the α- and β- furanosides and pyranosides. Investigation of the interconversion of these isomers shows different reactivity and stability of the biuret and triuret analogues as well as between the corresponding furanosides and pyranosides.

on September 25, 2025 at 12:00 amOxygen evolution reaction (OER), hindered by sluggish kinetics and intricate catalytic mechanisms, remains a key bottleneck in water splitting. In this work, selectively doping single-atomic Ir into NiMoO4 enables a synergistic adsorbate evolution mechanism and lattice oxygen mechanism (AEM-LOM), achieving superior performance: low overpotential (253 mV at 10 mA cm−2), remarkable stability (>1000 h), and practical applicability in water electrolyzers.

on September 25, 2025 at 12:00 amA redox-active Cu(I)-photocatalyst is evaluated for the aziridination of alkenes. Especially styrenes and electron-rich 1,3-dienes are found to be suitable substrates, allowing short reaction times (10 min) at low catalyst loading (1 mol%). The activation of the copper(I) complex by light is compared to the process in the dark.

on September 25, 2025 at 12:00 amTracking the propagation of periodic concentration perturbations within chemical reactions is presented as a powerful strategy for probing reaction connectivity and the kinetics of individual reaction steps. This approach is demonstrated here for the organocatalytic Michael-type addition of cyclopentadiene to α,β-unsaturated aldehydes, based on relative phase delays in ion intensities measured by electrospray ionization-mass spectrometry.

on September 24, 2025 at 12:00 amMono- and biphasic semihydrogenation of alkynes is catalyzed by water-dispersed palladium nanoparticles of various size, shape, and surface coatings at 1 and 50 bar hydrogen pressure. Spherical nanoparticles of 5 nm diameter were most efficient. Ultrasmall nanoparticles (2 nm) showed an increase in metallic character due to reduction by hydrogen during catalysis.

on September 23, 2025 at 12:00 amIt was found that the topology profoundly regulates the planarity, exciton binding energy, and electron push-pull effect of donor-acceptor conjugated polymers. Thus, distinct topological arrangements lead to orders of magnitude differences in photocatalytic hydrogen production activity.

on September 23, 2025 at 12:00 amThe late-stage oxidation of C(sp3)─H bonds is valuable for modulating properties and diversification. We report that perfluorinated ruthenium porphyrins catalyze the undirected C(sp3)─H oxidation of various natural products and drugs with high turnover numbers. In combination with directed C─H silylation, alkyl groups remote from existing functionality can be formally dihydroxylated.

on September 21, 2025 at 12:00 amPhotoconversion of phytochrome causes structural alterations in the chromophore binding pocket, associated with local electric field changes, which are analyzed by experimental and theoretical methods. The field changes propagate to the distant tongue region of the protein. Magnitude of the field changes may be an important factor contributing to the functionally essential secondary structure transition of the tongue.
