“The successful conclusion of the 21st Conference of the Parties (COP 21) talks with a concrete agreement sends a clear signal that society is firmly committed to fighting climate change”, said Hubert Mandery, Cefic Director General.

According to Cefic, the European Chemical Industry Council, the European chemical industry strongly supported the international efforts to reach a binding global agreement. The European chemical industry today uses less than half the energy it used back in 1990. It represents only 10 % of total global CO2 emissions. However, the EU remains at the forefront of the fight against climate change and its chemical industry is developing innovative solutions which will be key to combating climate change.

“Paving the way to a successful transition towards a sustainable and competitive low carbon economy will take time, energy, and innovative ideas. The European chemical industry is here to play its part”, says Hubert Mandery.
