Lab-on-a-chip devices are increasingly useful. Now, a flow-injection impedimetric immunosensor for the sensitive detection of cholera toxin down to 10 picomolar could be used to spot early contamination of water. The device is thousands of times more sensitive than the lethal dose of the toxin.
The chip’s 2×2 sensor array uses two immobilized antibodies on each electrode to detect different antigens in a small sample. Moreover, it is low cost, quick to use and potentially portable, all important factors in implementing it as a screening tool in the developing world of disaster zones.
