Secondary Flame of a Candle

An approximately 5 cm long tube is held with pliers into the inner cone of a candle flame. Vapor escapes through the tube. This is ignited and a secondary flame develops.

There is a lack of air in the inner cone of a flame. Here, the gaseous wax cannot burn. It escapes through the tube, at the end of which it can be ignited.
