The Periodic Table of Videos has been awarded the SPORE Prize by the American Association for the Advancement of Science. The SPORE (Science Prize for Online Resources in Education) encourages innovation and excellence in education, as well as the use of high-quality online resources by students, teachers, and the public.

The Periodic Table of Videos was created by Martyn Poliakoff and co-workers, University of Nottingham, UK, along with BBC-trained video journalist, Brady Haran. It features a video for each of the 118 elements. Each video has an interview with either Poliakoff or a colleague in which they describe the element. The interviews are brought to life with experiments that illustrate the element’s properties. If the experiemnt fails, it is still included in the video helping to debunk some of the myths of chemistry.

Once videos of all the elements were completed, the Periodic Table of Videos expanded to include the researcher’s favourite molecules and compounds in a new series — The Molecular Videos. In addition, there are topical themed videos such as those on gold, silver, and bronze produced for the Olympic Games.
