In this issue, J. Gong et al. review heterogeneous molecular systems for photocatalytic CO2 reduction with water oxidation. What recent developments are there? In a Minireview, M. H. Wang and K. A. Scheidt discuss cooperative catalysis and activation with N-heterocyclic carbenes. The Highlights deal with industrial catalysts for CO2 conversion (M. Behrens) and directed evolution of artificial metalloenzymes for enantioselective C–C couplings (T. R. Ward). In his Editorial, Ferdi Schüth writes on the origin of life as a key question to illustrate the fascination of chemistry.
In the Communications section, T. Zhang et al. describe a thiolate-mediated photoinduced synthesis of ultrafine Ag2S quantum dots (see picture). P. J. Lusby et al. show how to maximize interactions between coordination capsules and their guests in apolar solvents. P. C. Blainey et al. let peptides and small molecules slide on DNA, and N. K. Garg et al. succeeded in the nickel-catalyzed esterification of aliphatic amides.
