In this issue, H.-w. Liu et al. review the enzymology of organic transformations. What examples of name reactions in biological systems are there? The Highlight deals with an inorganic clathrate, namely a polyhedron with 22 vertices and up to ninefold coordinated phosphorus atoms. The 125th anniversary of the birth and 40th anniversary of the death of Michael Polanyi are the occasion for two essays: M. J. Nye writes on his works in the philosophy of science, and D. R. Herschbach discusses Polanyi’s achievements in the field of chemical dynamics and philosophical thinking.

In the Communications section, S. Brøndsted Nielsen et al. access the nature of electronic transitions from gas-phase spectroscopy of molecular ion and zwitterion complexes (see picture). H. Fu et al. describe the lattice-matched epitaxial growth of organic heterostructures for optoelectronic application. A. G. Doyle et al. succeeded in the dual nickel- and photoredox-catalyzed enantioselective desymmetrization of cyclic meso-anhydrides.
