Angewandte Chemie 35/2017: A Challenging Target

Author: Angewandte Chemie International Edition

In this issue, A. T. Plowright et al. review new modalities for challenging targets in drug discovery. How is progress in this area leading to a range of novel drug candidates? In a Minireview, M. Soleilhavoup and G. Bertrand discuss borylenes: organoboron as mimics for carbenes and amines. The Highlight deals with “super-reducing” photocatalysis with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (M. Brasholz), and in the Guest Editorial, H. Schwalbe writes on the importance of high-resolution NMR spectrometers.

In the Communications section, Y. Watanabe et al. describe the direct hydroxylation of benzene to phenol by cytochrome P450BM3 (see picture). Y. Xia et al. succeeded in the reconstitution of low-density lipoproteins with fatty acids for drug delivery. J. L. Vicario et al. found enantioselective oxidative (4+3) cycloadditions between allenamides and furans to occur through bifunctional hydrogen-bonding/ion-pairing interactions.
