Dr. Supawadee Namuangruk, National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC), Klong Nueng, Thailand, has received the Wiley–Chemical Society of Thailand (CST) Award for Contributions to Green Chemistry 2017. The prize honors outstanding green chemistry research by young Thai chemists. The award was presented at the Pure and Applied Chemistry International Conference (PACCON 2018) in Bangkok, Thailand, on February 7, 2018.

Dr. Namuangruk's research focuses on applications of density functional theory (DFT) methods to design and predict the properties of functional nanomaterials in the fields of energy and environment. She is interested in, e.g., catalysts and adsorbents for eliminating pollutants such as heavy metals, H2S, NOx, and volatile organic compounds, catalysis for biomass conversion to biofuels and biochemicals, and photofunctional materials for energy devices, such as dye-sensitized solar cells and organic light emitting diodes (LEDs).

Supawadee Namuangruk
received her Ph.D. in chemistry from Kasetsart University, Bangkok, Thailand, in 2007. She was a postdoctoral researcher working with Joachim Sauer at Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany, from 2008 to 2009. After that, she joined the Nanoscale Simulation Laboratory (SIM lab) in NANOTEC. She currently is a Senior Researcher there and has served as Team Leader of SIM lab since 2013. She received the L’Oreal-UNESCO for Women in Science Award in the Chemical Science category in 2016.
