75th Birthday: Georg Schwedt

Georg Schwedt, Professor Emeritus, Clausthal University of Technology, and University of Bonn, both Germany, celebrates his 75th birthday on June 3, 2018. Schwedt is the author of several analytical chemistry textbooks and a large number of popular science books introducing everyday chemistry topics to a wider audience. For this public outreach, he has received the prize for journalists and authors of the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh, German Chemical Society) in 2010.

Georg Schwedt studied chemistry at the University of Göttingen, Germany, and received his Ph.D. from the University of Hanover, Germany. He completed his habilitation in analytical chemistry at the University of Siegen, Germany, in 1978. After joining the University of Göttingen as Professor of Analytical Chemistry, Schwedt was appointed Director of the Institute of Food Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry at the University of Stuttgart. From 1987 until his retirement in 2006, he has been Professor of Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry at the Clausthal University of Technology. Since 2006, he has worked at the University of Bonn, Germany.
