Holger Butenschön, University of Hanover, Germany, celebrates his 65th birthday on July 21, 2018. His research interests include (arene)tricarbonylchromium complexes, functionalized ferrocenes, molecular electronics, asymmetric catalysis with P-stereogenic ligands, and chelate complexes with phosphane tethers.
Holger Butenschön studied chemistry at the University of Hamburg, Germany, where he received his Ph.D. in organic chemistry in 1983 under the supervision of Armin de Meijere. The same year, he joined K. P. C. Vollhardt at the University of California, Berkeley, USA, as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. Butenschön then worked at the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research, Mülheim, Germany, while also serving as a Lecturer at the University of Hamburg. He completed his habilitation there in 1991 and in 1993, he became Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Hanover. Since 2014, Butenschön serves as Chairman of the Editorial Board of CHEMKON. He also is the Editor of the German version of the textbook Organic Chemistry by K. P. C. Vollhardt and Neil E. Schore.
