In this issue, K. Landfester et al. review engineering of proteins at interfaces. How can interactions be characterized and ideally engineered to produce functional material surfaces? In their Guest Editorial, M. Poliakoff, P. Licence, and M. W. George propose that sustainable chemistry requires some overarching goal that can be embraced by everyone.
In the Communications section, A. Douhal et al. describe a docking strategy to construct stable single-crystalline hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks with high surface area (see picture). J. Wu et al. have developed a microtubing-reactor-assisted aliphatic C–H functionalization with HCl as a hydrogen-atom-transfer catalyst precursor in conjunction with an organic photoredox catalyst. H. I. Karunadasa et al. present halide double perovskites with small band gaps, and V. Daggett et al. found a carboxylate to amide substitution that switches protein folds.
