Angewandte Chemie 7/2020: What is Life?

Author: Angewandte Chemie International Edition

In this issue, W.-S. Yoon et al. review cathode materials for rechargeable lithium batteries. What are the underlying principles of the materials? The Minireviews deal with high-performance nucleic acid sensors for liquid biopsy applications (J. Das, S. O. Kelley) and nanozymes in single-atom catalysis (Y. Lin et al.). In an Essay, C. Moberg reflects on the impact of Schrödinger’s book “What is Life?” 75 years after it was published.

In the original-research section, W. Ding et al. describe a morphology-reserved synthesis of discreet nanosheets of CuO@SAPO-34 and pore mouth catalysis for one-pot oxidation of cyclohexane (see picture). J.-C. Cintrat et al. detail a photochemical strain-release-driven cyclobutylation of C(sp3)-centered radicals. J. Zhang et al. report an enantioselective difunctionalization of alkenes by a palladium-catalyzed Heck/Sonogashira sequence, and M. Raj et al. succeeded in the bioinspired nitroalkylation for selective protein modification and peptide stapling.
