In this issue, X. Shen et al. review halide-based materials and chemistry for rechargeable batteries. How are they designed and used for electrodes and interfaces? The Minireviews deal with fluorine-containing reagents in structural proteomics (M. L. Gross et al.) and 2D nanomaterials for photothermal therapy (H. Liu et al.).

In the original-research section, T.-Y. D. Tang et al. show how reversible pH-responsive coacervate formation in lipid vesicles activates dormant enzymatic reactions (see picture). R. Poli et al. describe how a switchable polymerization is triggered by fast and quantitative insertion of carbon monoxide into cobalt–oxygen bonds. A. S. Weller et al. present a structurally characterized cobalt(II) σ-alkane complex. L. E. Overman et al. succeeded in the total synthesis of Macfarlandin C, a diterpenoid with a concave bicyclooctanone fragment.
