Angewandte Chemie 32/2020: Method Development

Author: Angewandte Chemie International Edition

In this issue, M. Reetz et al. review method development in directed evolution of selective enzymes. What is the latest in sequence-based to structure-guided methods? The Minireviews deal with interfaces of dendrite-free zinc anodes for aqueous zinc-ion batteries (H. Wang et al.) and stiff-stilbene photoswitches (D. Villarón, S. J. Wezenberg). Part B of R. Hoffmann’s and J.-P. Malrieu’s Essay trilogy on the tension between simulation and understanding in quantum chemistry and beyond is about “The March of Simulation, for Better or Worse”.

In the original research section, M.-H. Zeng et al. present in situ pyrolysis tracking and real-time phase evolution from a binary cluster to supercapacitive porous carbon (see picture). R. A. Lerner et al. introduce a chemistry for the incorporation of selenium into DNA-encoded libraries. J. G. Hernández et al. succeeded in the direct visualization of a mechanochemically induced molecular rearrangement. D. Das et al. describe a non-equilibrium polymerization of cross-β amyloid peptides for temporal control of electronic properties.
