The cookies are very popular in Austria, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, and Hungary, especially at Christmas time. Originally, they are from Austria.

Due to the high butter content and the absence of egg, they melt in your mouth and are a bit like shortbread.

Ground, blanched almonds make a light-colored cookie. If walnuts or hazelnuts are used, the cookie becomes darker.

Vanilla sugar (Vanillezucker) is perhaps not known everywhere. You can easily make it yourself or order it on the Internet. Seal an empty vanilla pod and 100 g sugar in an airtight glass and let it stand for about two weeks. The sugar takes on the vanilla aroma.
