The future of chemical education will include multimedia electronic textbooks with features that seem revolutionary compared to today’s standard paper texts.
In an Editorial for Angewandte Chemie, author and Professor Emeritus of Oxford University, UK, Peter Atkins paints a picture of this new learning environment.

In his vision, it will include educational gaming applications, e-tutors, and social networking opportunities to encourage collaborative learning. These innovations, however, will also require a paradigm shift regarding authorship up-to-date content.
