The Hermann-Staudinger Prize has been awarded to Axel Müller, University of Bayreuth, Germany. The prize is awarded by the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh, German Chemical Society) and is the most important German award in the field of Polymer chemistry. Müller receives the award for his work on polymer synthesis, the fabrication of complex nanoscale polymer architectures, and the phase behavior of polymers in solution.
The award includes a gold medal and certificate.
Axel Müller studied chemistry at the University of Mainz, Germany, and gained his Ph.D in 1977. In 1987, he was invited to be a visiting professor at East China University of Chemical Technology, Shanghai. He returned to Mainz to complete his Habilitation and in 1999 he joined the faculty at the University of Bareuth, Germany, as Professor of Macromolecular Chemistry. He has been a visiting professor at universities in France, Canada, Japan, and Australia.
Müller’s research interests include the mechanisms and control of polymerizations, self-organized nanostructures from block copolymers, particularly Janus particles, and polymers with non-linear topologies.
