Australian Chemistry under the Spotlight

Author: Jonathan Faiz

Chemistry in Australia is currently benefiting from a major investment from government funding schemes and is performing well on the international scene, with four Australian chemistry departments in the top 100 worldwide. Both international and industrial collaborations are also encouraged and supported by the government.

In his Editorial for Angewandte Chemie, Colin L. Raston, The University of Western Australia, outlines how research in the chemical sciences in Australia has been advanced through a range of fellowships and research programs. Priority research areas such as environmental sustainability and frontier technologies for industry have been established, and fellowships for world leaders as well as mid-career and early-career researchers are available. A Linkage Program helps transfer research to industry and country-specific international collaboration programs such as with China and India have been established.
