Professor Sebastião Feyo de Azevedo, University of Porto, Portugal, has received the Dieter Behrens Medal 2013 at the opening ceremony of the ECCE9-ECAB2 in Den Haag, the Netherlands, on April 21, 2013.
The Medal, first presented in 1999, is awarded every four years in recognition of a significant contribution on behalf of the European Federation of Chemical Engineering (EFCE) in raising the profile of chemical engineering in Europe or in relation to the organization, management, or development of EFCE’s activity base.
Sebastião Feyo de Azevedo is awarded for his active membership and committed chairmanship (2007–2010) of the EFCE Working Party on Education and for his substantial contribution to chemical engineering education and qualifications in Europe through numerous papers and presentations.

Sebastião José Cabral Feyo de Azevedo, born 1951 in Porto, Portugal, studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Porto, and gained his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Wales (Swansea), UK, in 1982. After his ‘Habilitation’ in Chemical Engineering at the University of Porto, Portugal, in 1996, he became Professor of Chemical Engineering there. Currently he is the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.

Among many other activities, Feyo de Azevedo is founder and member of the Administrative Council of ECEENA – European Chemical Engineering Education Network Association, an international non-profit Association under Belgium Law, (2009–2011).
