In this issue, M. Jia and S. Ma review approaches to the syntheses of metal carbenes. How can they be achieved without intermediate diazo compounds? The Highlight deals with the prediction of rate constants in catalysis (R. A. Catlow). In his Editorial, C. Walther shows what nuclear and radiochemistry have to offer beyond nuclear power.
In the Communications section, H.-C. Xu et al. describe a method of electrochemical functionalization for the synthesis of (aza)indoles (see picture), and C. Li et al. present a natural–artifical photosynthetic hybrid. P. R. Schreiner et al. found a hydrocarbon with a large dipole moment, which may enable molecular electronics, and M. D. Guiver et al. created a montmorillonite mixed-matrix membrane for CO2 separation.
