The Nobel Prize in Physics for 2010 was awarded to the Wiley authors Professors Andre Geim (left) and Konstantin Novoselov (right), both of the University of Manchester, UK, for groundbreaking experiments regarding the two-dimensional material graphene.

“We are honored to be able to count Professor Geim and Professor Novoselov among our authors and congratulate the laureates for this recognition of their work and discoveries, which promise to reap many practical benefits to society in coming years,” said Dr. Jon Walmsley, Vice President & Managing Director, Physical Science, John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Both laureates have written articles on graphene and other topics for the Wiley journals physica status solidi and Small.

Professor Novoselov has also written for the journal Advanced Materials.

Graphene was first discovered in the 1960s, but its unusual electronic properties, and therefore importance, was not recognized until recently. The early history was described in an essay in Angewandte Chemie two weeks ago.

Professors Geim and Novoselov join a selection of Wiley authors who have won Nobel Prizes and this year’s award means that there are a total of 50 laureates in Physics who have published with Wiley.

A selection of papers by Professors Geim and Novoselov, as well as the recent Angewandte Chemie paper (see link above), will be freely available for the month of October to celebrate the launch of Wiley’s new platform, Wiley Online Library.
