Clariant performed the groundbreaking ceremony of a new manufacturing plant in Cuddalore. In December 2015, the company had announced plans to invest CHF 10 million (Eur 9 million) in this Healthcare Packaging plant. The investment will be implemented through its wholly owned subsidiary in India.

The plant is slated for inauguration in 2017 and will support the growing generic pharmaceutical industry in India. It will initially produce desiccant canisters and packets, which are inserted into pharmaceutical packaging to control moisture and protect the stability of the medicine during shelf life. The desiccant production area will be Clean Room Class 100,000 and certified ISO 8. It will be compliant with all relevant cGMP and US FDA standards.

With ten production sites in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu and a state-of-the-art Regional Innovation Center in Mumbai, Clariant’s new greenfield plant in Cuddalore will further reinforce the company’s commitment to “Make in India and Sell in India”.
