Subject to the usual consultations with the respective works councils and the approval of the antitrust authorities, Röhm has agreed to acquire SABIC’s Functional Forms business. This will complement the company’s existing range of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) sheets and films with polycarbonate sheets and films. The transaction is expected to close in the first half of 2024.

Functional Forms business is a leading global manufacturer offering a broad portfolio of high-quality polycarbonate films and sheets. They are predominantly sold under the LEXAN™ brand. Functional Forms has an extensive global presence with approximately 700 employees in 19 countries. The LEXAN™ brand is an ideal complement to Röhm’s acrylic brand PLEXIGLAS® (sold in the Americas under the registered trademark ACRYLITE®).

The new combined company will generate sales of more than €700 million, Röhm said. Both companies manufacture high-quality sheet and film products used in a wide range of industries, from construction to consumer electronics, medicine to aerospace. The acquisition is an important cornerstone of Röhm’s strategy to expand its business in transparent semi-finished products into a leading global multi-polymer company.
