Welding with Civan’s Ultrafast CBC-Laser

Rudolf Weber, Institut für Strahlwerkzeuge (IFSW), University of Stuttgart, Germany, speaks about the beam shaping technology of CIVAN’s Coherent Beam Combining (CBC) laser.

The first part of the online seminar will provide an overview of the fundamentals and challenges of the welding process and the features of the CIVAN CBC laser. The second part of the webinar will discuss approaches to take advantage of fast, arbitrary beam shaping to control process problems.

Novel technologies such as high-tech components for electromotive applications result in new challenges in manufacturing and in particular in joining technologies. These range from joining of dissimilar materials over crack- and pore-free welding of novel alloys to ultra-high-speed welding of large parts.

The unique beam shaping technology of CIVAN’s Coherent Beam Combining (CBC) laser enables the generation of beam shapes with arbitrary variation of the intensity distribution on the workpiece. In addition, it is possible to switch between these shapes at MHz frequencies. This offers great potential for influencing and controlling laser welding processes.
