Angewandte 28/2014: The Sweet Smell of Success

Author: Angewandte Chemie International Edition

In this issue, T. Hofmann et al. review the chemistry of smell. What are nature’s chemical signatures in human olfaction and what are the perspectives for future food biotechnology? The Highlight deals with electrosynthetic methods for complex molecular syntheses (S. R. Waldvogel and B. Janza).

In the Communications section, M. Akita et al. present a facile synthesis of α-trifluoromethylated ketones from aromatic alkenes by means of photoredox catalysis (see picture). B. Liu et al. used a polyelectrolyte-based polyprodrug for photodynamic and chemotherapy with on-demand drug release. S. Zacchini et al. describe a hydride migration from a triangular face to a tetrahedral cavity in tetranuclear iron carbonyl clusters.
