Participants of the Comic Competition agree to the Terms of Use.
These Terms of Use govern the Comic Contests. The Privacy Policy and Terms of ChemistryViews.org itself are additional and can be viewed at http://www.chemistryviews.org/view/0/privacy.html and http://www.chemistryviews.org/view/0/terms.html.


a. Contest Sponsor

This competition is being organized and managed by Wiley-VCH GmbH & Co. KGaA.

b. Entry Compliance And Entry Disputes

Entry is open to everybody aged 18 or older at the time of entry, free of charge.

ChemistryViews.org will validate all entries and will determine, at its sole discretion, whether each essay meets the entry criteria detailed herein for acceptance as an entry into the contest.

ChemistryViews.org reserves the right not to accept, or to disqualify an entry, if we are not fully satisfied with the authenticity and validity of the credentials of either the entrant, you, or any associated entity. You understand that ChemistryViews.org is under no obligation to disclose its reasons for not accepting an entry.

The opening and closing date and time for entries are as indicated in the Essay Contest Rules & Guidelines. Any entries received after September 28, 2015 00:00 pm GMT will be disregarded, but may still appear on the website.

Entries which are mutilated, incomplete, illegible, inaccurate, forged, irregular in any way, or otherwise not in compliance with these official rules are void. In the event of a dispute concerning who submitted an entry, the entry will be deemed to have been submitted by the authorized holder of the e-mail account from which the entry was made. The “authorized account holder” is the natural person to whom an e-mail address is assigned by an Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization (e.g., business, educational institution, etc.) responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address.

Automated entries of any kind, including but not limited to entries submitted using any bot, script, macro, or contest service, and third party entries are not permitted and will be disqualified.

Wiley employees and their family members may participate, but are ineligible to win.

c. Promotion/Publicity

By submitting an entry, you grant Wiley-VCH and their partners the right to use information and content provided by you for publicity and institutional promotional purposes to the extent permitted by law. You understand and agree that Wiley-VCH may request more information from you for such purposes, should your text become a finalist or a prize-winner.
You also agree not to claim or imply for any reason that Wiley-VCH and their partners are not the producers or co-producers of your essay.


d. Rights And Distribution

By submitting your essay into this competition, you hereby grant to Wiley-VCH the royalty-free nonexclusive right to publish in print and online, and to distribute your esay in whole or in part. Wiley-VCH is not assuming any obligation hereunder to distribute any essay submitted to the contest.

e. Prizes

Specifics of prizes are the organizer’s sole discretion. Prizes are not transferable; no substitutions are permitted. All taxes and any other costs related to this prize not specifically stated within these Essay Contest Rules & Guidelines are the sole responsibility of the winner.

f. Conditions In Respect Of Use

You acknowledge and agree that Wiley-VCH and their partners are not required to host, display, accept, consider, or publish any comic entered or submitted into the competition, and you further agree that if Wiley-VCH determines that your entry does not meet eligibility requirements for any reason, Wiley-VCH may, at their sole discretion, remove your submission from the contest.
You understand and agree that once you submit or attempt to submit your essay, it is an entry into the competition. You shall have no right to prohibit, restrict, revoke or terminate any of the rights granted to Wiley-VCH hereunder. Moreover, you understand and acknowledge that you are not entitled to any compensation or other consideration for your essay once submitted into the contest.

g. Agree To Be Bound

By entering, entrants agree to be bound by the decisions of the judges and these official rules and to comply with laws and regulations as well as all rules and terms of use posted on www.ChemistryViews.org.

h. Not Responsible For Technical Difficulties

Wiley-VCH and those working for or on their behalf will not be responsible for lost, late, misdirected, damaged or attempted submissions, or for e-mail, internet, computer hardware and software, phone, and/or any other technical errors, malfunctions, and delays that may prevent you from uploading your essay into the competition, or interfere with your compliance with the rules of this competition. All responsibilities related to submitting a qualifying entry fall on you, the entrant or potential entrant.

i. Release From Liability

Entrants agree that Wiley-VCH and related individuals or entities shall not be liable for losses or injuries of any kind resulting from acceptance of prize(s), participation in the contest, individual, joint or collective technical malfunctions of the telephone network and/or transmission line, computer on-line system, computer dating mechanism, computer equipment, hardware and/or software, or any delay or distortion of an entry resulting from data transmissions that are garbled, incomplete, misdirected, lost, mutilated, delayed, corrupted, mechanically duplicated, illegible or otherwise not in compliance with these official rules.
Furthermore, you also agree that Wiley-VCH and their partners are not liable in any way for any false claims, inaccuracies or illegal content contained in your comic or in associated information links or external websites.

j. Privacy/Your Representations

By submitting an entry each entrant/you confirm/s in respect of any content submitted that:

  1. the entrant is/you are the sole author and owner of the copyright of the entry; your essay does not contain any copyrighted material e.g., pictures). The author of the text will be responsible for securing the licensing rights. (To avoid the expense and difficulty of securing such rights we recommend using only original, non-copyrighted material or material licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license).
  2. you warrant that the essay contains no libelous or unlawful statements, does not infringe upon the rights (including without limitation the copyright, patent or trademark rights) or the privacy of others, or contain material or instructions that might cause harm or injury.
  3. Copyright in your contribution will remain with you and this permission is not exclusive, so you can continue to use the material in any way including allowing others to use it.

k. Personal Data and Data Protection

The law in Germany stipulates that we must inform participants of this competition about which kind of personal data we collect, why we collect them and how we use them.

Individuals registering for the competition are required to provide certain personal data, including name, address, e-mail address. By registering for the competition, you thereby give us your consent to collect, store, process and use your personal data for the duration and the purpose of the competition only according with German data protection laws. No personal data are released to third parties.
Any personal data will be deleted once the Competition is finalized. You have the right to revoke your consent in using your personal data by sending an e-mail to [email protected]. Once you revoke your consent, you will be excluded from the participation in the competition.
Wiley-VCH shall be entitled to post the names of the winners of the Competition on the website.

l. Voting

Users can vote on each entry. Voting is done by clicking the like button as described in the Rules & Guidelines. ChemistryViews.org reserves the right to disqualify votes if it has reasonable grounds to suspect that fraudulent voting has occurred or if it considers there has been any attempt to rig the voting.

Voting by users will determine the most popular essay. As described in Rules & Guidelines it will win a book prize. The judges will decide who becomes First Prize Winner, Second and Third Winner as described in paragraph 3 at Rules & Guidelines.

Wiley-VCH, their sub-contractors, subsidiaries and/or agencies cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for any technical failure or malfunction or any other problem with any network or line, system, server, provider or otherwise which may result in any vote being lost or not properly registered or recorded.

Any recourse to courts of law is excluded.
